Makemake EP

Over the past twelve months, New York based M A N I K has been residing at the top of many peoples 'one to watch' lists. The Music Business graduate, in late 2009, took to ruling other lists too, as he raced to the top of DJ and download charts alike off the back of his 'Park To The Slop' EP on Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings.

The success of this EP and his unique production style that blends cutting edge house and futuristic techno with deep old school grooves and edgy sounds, also led to releases on Four:Twenty and Fresh Meat.

The 24 year old is rapidly building a reputation with his work and it gives us immense pleasure to welcome him to Komplex De Deep. M A N I K's 'Makemake' EP could not be a better fit. Both the title track and flip 'Space & Truth' take us on elegant and sensual, oldskool journeys. Sweeping strings, rasping keys and most importantly lashings of groove, make this a release to revel in.

From a new and rising talent, we turn to a very much established and legendary producer for our remixes. Alain Ho has unlike many, been there from the very beginnings. A DJ since the age of 13, he was instrumental in the creation and success of the French House scene. From his early days in Hip-Hop, to the launch of the famous Yellow Productions label and through his very own productions under his DJ Yellow guise, Alain has always been at the forefront of electronic music.

Held in such high regard by his contemporaries for his diverse and exquisite productions, we could not think of a better producer to lend his talents to remixing this title track. Alain creates a stunning soundscape of emotive synths and strings, backed by a warm, delicate bassline.

Deejay Magazine Spain - En los ultimos 12 meses un nombre ha irrumpido en la escena, sobre todo después de su Ep en Ovum, propiedad de Josh Wink. Hablamos del Neoyorkino MANIK. El éxito de ese EP marco su sonido, poniendolo en la escena del deep tech y house del futuro con mucho fuerza. Ahora regresa con un nuevo EP en Komplex De Deep. 2 cortes originales y 2 remixes de manos de Alain Ho. Makemake, el cual da nombre al ep nos muestra un carisma house, son melodía acida y percusion sexy que a la vez deja el camino allanado para el segundo corte, con una melodía de “bajo” que hace las delicias de cualquier pista. En los remixes, mucho deep profundo, melodico y elegante a la altura del EP. MANIK nos vuelve a enseñar que el deep house enamora.

"Makemake" beginnt wie ein klassischer Detroittrack mit weichen Strings, smoother Acidbassline und wird dann nach und nach sogar im Sound immer verknisterter. Definitiv Musik für die ganz späten Stunden. "Space & Truth" kommt mit fast pathetischen Synths und eigenwilligen Kuhglocken im Hintergrund und säuselt definitiv ein wenig beduselt von der Oldschool. Killer sind hier aber die Alain-Ho-Remixe, die irgendwie im Sound noch melodischer und breiter wirken.

i-DJ Magazine UK – Just nine releases in and Paris’s Komplex de Deep has already established itself as a must-check label. ‘Makemake’ is one of those numbers that’s equally at home on dancefloor or sofa, with label boss Alain Ho serving up two afterhours rerubs. But the real gem is ‘Space & Truth’, which is an object lesson in how dancefloor deep should be done: fat, funky and a iittle bit druggy/proggy around the edges. Groove to this. 9/10

Raveline Magazine Germany - Der New Yorker Produzent Manik gilt als Riesentalent, was er auch mit seiner neuen „Makemake EP“ eindrucksvoll bestätigt. „Makemake“ klingt im Original Mix wunderbar oldschool und grooved schön mit leichten perkussiven Elementen direkt ins Tanzbein, ganz ganz starke Nummer! Der Remix von Alan Ho klingt im Vergleich zum Original wesentlich ver- träumter und lädt eher zum Chillen ein. „Space Truth“ ist schon wieder mehr für den Club produziert und passt perfekt zu „Makemake“. Hier bestimmt ebenfalls eine satte Bassline mit fein komponierter Melo das Geschehen. Gefällt mal richtig! 5/6
